WIWW

It's that time of the week again!! I am linking up with Lindsey here http://thepleatedpoppy.com/2011/05/what-i-wore-wednesday-23/ for What I Wore Wednesday!!

Here is yesterday's outfit (YES! It finally warmed up in the Midwest and BOY did it warm up - I mean seriously....90's? What happened to spring?)

Black Jacket - Express / Thrifted
Sequin Camo Tank - Deb 2010 $3.00
Shorts - (were pants) Target 2007
Sandals - Walmart 2007 $5.00
Camo studded cuff - Thrifted

I ran errands yesterday and got TONS of compliments on my tank (I guess people love a lil sparkle and camo!!)

My shorts started out like this.....I rarely wore these pants....they were in the donation pile and I decided I'd try and give them a new life by making them into cut-off's....

The curse of being 5'2" is that most pants are just too long (and I can't justify paying a tailor to alter as much as the pants cost )
Mother's Day (my mom and I go flower shopping every Mother's Day) the weather was perfect!

Black Boyfriend Cardi - Target 2008
Grey T-shirt - Wal-Mart $3.00
Jean Capri's - Lane Bryant 2010

NOW, here is a total What I TRIED to wear Wednesday.....I tried this on to wear to Maya's school event and I just didn't feel right....I wasn't even going to post this BUT wanted y'all to know it's ok to try new things and sometimes they might fail BUT ya never know until you try....

I ended up wearing another black dress.....

Garden Urns

After the Annual Mother's Day flower shopping trip with my mom I was inspired to work on my urns....

Here is how they started out.....(this was the spring look - pansies, faux forsythia and sticks)

BUT now that summer came in overnight (um it was 90+ today) and seeing all the pretty flowers out for summer I knew a change was in the near future....
I picked these up @ Wally world.....it's a small houseplant (I LOVE to use these as accent plants in summer outdoor pots - WAY MO' BANG FOR YOUR BUCK and more unique options). For example, this plant was $2.75
Looked like this when I took it outta the pot....

and split it into TWO (now I have accent plants for both my urns at a cost of $1.38 and most accent plants (Ivy, sweet potato vine, vinca vine or spikes ) are AT LEAST $2.00 each of not more.....
Once the plant was split, I laid the plants out in the urn until I found a pleasing arrangement....

I incorporated the pansies....
And this summer I am trying something a lil different....I added mulch on top of the dirt HOPING to help maintain the moisture and keep the plants hydrated (I'll let you know how that goes) and it LOOKS so neat and nice.

MOM

Remember I posted these last week? Simple letters printed directly onto scrapbook paper?

And yesterday I posted the silver coasters I made into mini-chalk plaques....

And the pearl spheres? PEARLfect next to a vintage 1928 Tiffany & Co ad for pearls....

Got this last fall at a garage sale....this chick had the BEST stuff that she was literally GIVING away!
It was a cute lil architectural piece on it's own, right? BUT there was a lil hole in the top and the moment I spotted it I KNEW (who knew it would take 8 months to actually do it - gosh that's PITIFUL!!) I would put a wire in there to hold photos......

YEP! IT was only .25!! I told you, a STEAL!!
Or a vintage flashcard....aawww.....perfect for Mother's Day!! I made the wire holder simply by cutting (an already white) wire hanger, bending it around several times to form the loop and VIOLA!!

Here is my Mothers Day mantle.....

You will see I incorporated the elements I have made in the last week (and NONE of them cost a dime as I had the materials on hand already AND shopped the house for related items)

SEE the pearl spheres? And the architectural piece? The MOM frames? he best part of the decor - the pics of me and my babies!!

The other side has a pic of me and the kids and 2 mercury glass candlesticks with candles....

You'll notice the color palette is greys, creams and silvers.....that unites the display and it was all stuff I already had!!

Happy MOTHER'S DAY to all the mommas out there!!

Black, White and Pearl

The following are projects that have been on my to-do list for AGES!! And it's so silly that it took so long to actually start them because they were QUCIK and EASY to do!

This project I can't entirely take credit for as I saw someone on another blog cover wiffle balls (but I think they used napkins?). The following is MY take on it! I LOVE pearls as you can see here.....

(holy cleavage and bad hair day - this was my birthday last year)
And here.....(another crazy hair day)
and here......
and here.....
Last but not least here....
(don't ya love that cute lil bib detail on my tank....it's vintage and it clips on so I can wear it on shirt)
Onto the project! I started with these....wiffle balls from the Dollar Tree and strands of pearls (the smaller pearls were .99 at the salvation army and the large pearls I've had for ages and just never wanted to "commit" to any one project)

SO first I tried to glue the pearls directly on the ball BUT you could see the holes....I needed tissue paper (but didn't have any white) how about a napkin? (again, no white) SO I remembered I have a ton of coffee filters....
As I got half way thru the first ball I thought I ran outta of pearls (IF I had looked on the table I would have seen there was enough to do 2 balls!!) so I got creative and added the silver beads (these I bought at the Target Dollar Spot back in December...I was going to make tree topiaries). I really like the look of the pearl and silver - classic and edgy!!

(Stay tuned to see WHERE I displayed these)
Remember last week when I posted about these? Well #7 has found a home!

Right after I did the prep work! I simply glued twine on a piece of cardboard cut to size (I saw this idea on another blog as well)

I love the combined elements....the twine, silver and statement black! Seven has always been my lucky number and NOW it represents the number of people in MY family!

I have picked these up a different thrift stores....Prices ranged from .25 to .79....I always knew what I wanted to do with them....

A lil chalkboard paint (see, I squeezed the paint directly into the coasters and used a foam brush to spread....this was the first time I have used the brush method for chalkboard paint - I usually use spraypaint)....
After 3 coats (2 are reccomended) I had this.....
EAT.....perfect for the kitchen!
Awww.....M & J.....for me and my baby!! Wouldn't these be cute above picture frames of us!

GO and tackle those FUN lil projects! If you do, tell me, I'd love to see them!! OR if you're looking for more FUN project or decorating ideas stop by http://www.myuncommonsliceofsuburbia.com/ where you can find a whole lotta linky projects!

WIWW

I haven't linked up in awhile for a What I Wore Wednesday post and truth be told I have be uninspiring.....now that the store is closed, I am spending my time cleaning and organizing and packing.....tasks that aren't entirely conducive to dressing cute....BUT I do have one outfit to show y'all.....I am going to the pleated poppy http://thepleatedpoppy.com/2011/05/what-i-wore-wednesdays/ to see if I can't scare up some inspiration!!

Those who live in the midwest KNOW it's been cold and rainy and dreary...um, it's time for spring, no?

I was battling a cold last week and wanted to be comfy, warm and dress in layers (because I went from hot to cold and cold to hot)

I've had this dress (I also have one in a peacock color) for years....I have worn with dress pants and jeans BUT always feel like people are wondering when I am due....in short, I feel like I look like a preggo! BUT I think my adding the cardi and buttoning in the right spot I have eliminated the guessing game?

I thought I'd be a lil clever and use NY as the background.....

Hopefully next week I'll have a lil somethin' more! I have a couple pieces of clothing that I have "remade" and will definetley be posting that next week!

Beauty-Full

Lemme start this post by saying I lay NO claim to fame to knowing ANYTHING about beauty....it's all trial and error!

San Tan-Tonio by OPI.....I got this free from my Ulta reward points....similar to their Dulce de Leche which I loved! I put it on, LOVEd it on my toes, but not so much on my fingers.....felt like it needed something more.....(although looking at these pics it looks good)

I wanted some sparkle, some glitter BUT didn't want to alter the color too much....I added a layer of be-my-honey (although the french name sounds so much fancier" emmiellée) by Cover Girl....it gave a golden sheen to my nail (and did alter the color)

Have you heard of elf products? Some Target's carry the line and I have tried a few of their products (their is a lipgloss I LOVE...a berry stain with minty flavor...) I picked up elf's eyelid primer and I am in LOVE! For $1.00 this baby does it's job.....my eyeshadow and liner stays on all day (and nite....yes, i am one of those that doesn't take off her make-up before bed).
I encourage you to try one of their products....they're less than a latte! If ya do, lemme know which one is YOUR fave!
