Thanksgiving Decor

Hi ya'll!! I spent today decorating with a thankful heart!! It seems that every year Thanksgiving gets ousted by Christmas...Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas as much as the next girl BUT I want to take the time before Christmas to focus on family, gratitude and lifes daily joys BEFORE all the holiday hullabaloo! So, I get my Thanksgiving groove on (WHILE listening to Christmas music!!).

I recently separated the top shelf from the bottom of the sideboard, SO now whatever I put on there needs to look good from the front and back....I went with natural elements (the tiered tray actually looks like a fall Christmas tree :)

I LOVE using the space above the cabinets to decorate...below is my standard decor...vintage enamel pans from Italy, vintage platters (noticing a theme) and my prayerful hand plaque to remind us to pray and thank him!

For the month of November I put the turkey plate in the front of the platters and added an iron folk art-ish turkey...

and below the cabinets I changed up the snack station....the apothecary jars moved here from the buffet,  I added the "give thanks" sign and put some holiday plates in my silver fruit basket...

Each of my kids has a pin board that I change out their art work...This is my lil guys (I need to dig deep to find Maya's fall stuff - their art gets more sophisticated the older they get).
Isn't it cute?!?! There's nothing sweeter than a child's writing!!

I have this lil cutie turkey I got at the thrift...without pomp and circumstance he would get lost....

So he needed a cloche!! And to raise him up and make him stand out, I nestled him in a bed of dried split peas...again, a natural element that coordinates with my decor!

My bookshelf in the family room has simple touches added...

I found this brush at a flea and KNEW I would do something unique with it....I added the vintage "wheat" flashcard....

The view out my patio door....

I'd LOVE to see your decor! Leave me a link!!

Thrifty Tuesday Plan ahead and you WILL SAVE

Hola chicas!! Remember I talked about Shop & Swap last week? WELL, not only did I get clothing, I also got a few tchotckes as well (I know, just what I need, more crap  treasures) BUT I will have you know, I only took things I KNEW I could do something with OR have future plans for....
(I know that not everyone has the vision BUT I am going to show you what to do with the bits and pieces)
(for example - see that silver curtain rod there? I am going to mount it to hang my coffee cups just like raising up rubies did. You need to check her blog out- SUPER cute AND her craft room is going to be featured in BHG magazine - are you totally jeally?)

And you can barely see the silver plant hanger in the haul photo BUT I am going to use it to make another one of these....
(bird feeder made from enamel pot lid)

I picked up these ties.....

NOT to wear - they are clip ons!!

I want to make this wreath....I pinned on Pinterst SO it only makes sense to start collecting the ties now SO I have enough when May rolls around and I want to make it!! (I am trying to be better at getting organized AND getting things done in a timely fashion)
So friends, as you see, with a vision, a FAB free shop & Swap and PINTEREST and the blogworld decorating on a budget is MORE THAN POSSIBLE!!

Mani Monday

Hi girls! I am posting Mani Monday (I know, it's Tuesday BUT last night the kids and I made turkeys, I tried that detox bath thats all over pinterest {keep your eyes peeled for posts on both afore mentioned things} so I was in bed early). If you've read my blog you KNOW my 13 year old loves doing her nails (and I LOVE that she's such an incredible athlete AND girly girl!!). So she always wants me to post her nails on Mani Monday, so without further ado, her are Maya's nails....

She has a pearly white coat, did a silver glitter diagonal line and then added turquoise stripes at the bottom....

I used to do FUN nails all the time and then I started working, my nails have been a lil more on the conservative side (Maya says "BORING"). So I mixed it up ever so slightly this week...

Above is with the flash and below is without....

PURE ICE - Kiss me Here (the grey putty color) ELF topcoat (SERIOUSLY the best topcoat EVER - really keeps the polish on and un-chipped) and Nicōle - Glitter in my Stocking (which is gold and red glitters)

What your FAVE go to polish and color and WHY!?!?!

TRY IT THURSDAY....Handiwork, Hanging a fireplace

I know it's Friday and I am posting a day late (and these activities are actually FROM Friday BUT it's a TOTAL try it kinda post for me). If you read my last post about hanging a mirror you KNOW I am terrified of hanging stuff, I haven't had to really fix stuff BUT now I CAN hang stuff (and not have anyone tell me I can't) and I HAVE to fix stuff - But it's cool....It's awesome practice AND I feel so "woman of the world".

My first task at hand was to fix the couch...it's vintage, and the legs were falling out of the pre-drilled holes....in fact 2 fell out SO I noticed the metal things (I STILL don't know what they're called) on two legs BUT only 2 (and there are 6). So I went to my local hardware store and picked up 6 new ones (I was TOTALLY right guessing on the size as I didn't bring a leg - woot woot!)

SO I flipped the couch, hammered the metal thingy's in and screwed in the legs....

You may have noticed the purple paisley square in the above pic - that was my fireplace template....and the cause for the displaced furniture legs (had to re-arrange the furniture to accomodate my new fore box)

WHICH I HUNG on my own!! I was so nervous and so proud!! Hopefully it will still be hanging in the a.m.!!

The large pic is the living room BEFORE the re-ararnge....and the wall after the couch was moved and the fireplace hung....
I will post more pics with deets next week when I finish getting it all decorated!! My words of advice - don't be afraid - follow the step by step instructions, have faith and it'll be GREAT!!
