WIWW

Wednesday means it's time to link up with the Pleated Poppy http://thepleatedpoppy.com/blog/. Remember last week's Try It Thursday I showed you the t-shirt I made by simply sewing lace onto the sleeves of a plain white T? If not, check it out here http://objectofmayaffection.blogspot.com/2012/05/try-it-thursdaylace-cap-sleeves.html

It only seemed natural to pair the t-shirt with the skirt it was made from!!! I funked it up with a brown belt (so OUT of my "comfort zone" as I would've done a black belt) and cowboy boots....I was channelling my Inner Skylar Lane (and how the bleep bleep did she get sent home over Holly or Jessica?!?!?!).

What I am wearing:
White Hanes T with black lace accents
Brown Belt - Thrifted
Black Lace Skirt - Marshall's
Black Cowboy Boots

Friday I decided to try pattern mixing AND wearing it backwards!!

 What I am wearing:
Leopard Cardi - Thrfited
Grey and Cream Striped Dress - Marshall's
Caramel Gladiator Sandals - Thrifted (NEW)

See how low cut this would be IF I had worn it forward?
I liked the elegant higher neckline in the front vs. the back....moral of the story - don't ever be afraid to TRY SOMETHING NEW!!
and here is how I wore the SAME dress in August 2011 with different accessories....

See how different the same piece of clothing can look with different accessories?!?! Same concept...cardi and sandals - totally different look.

Saturday I was meandering the flea market so I dressed for comfort....
 What I am wearing:
Skully T-shirt: Boys section at Wal-Mart, cut by me (neckline and sleeves)
Sweatshirt - Last minute purchase at Wal-mart due to the chilly weather - again from the Boys Section
Jeans - Maurices 2009
AWESOME Boot - Vendor at the Flea (too big so I couldn't buy them)

Monday found the midwest wet and cool, so I KNEW I needed my rain boots and a hood!
 What I am wearing:
Grey Striped Hooded Jacket - Wal-Mart 2011
Black and Grey Striped Shirt - Miley Cyrus for Wal-Mart
Black Jeggings - Seven via Marshall's
Leopard Rain Boots - Aldi

Did ya notice my pattern mixing? The 2 different kinda stripes on top? (I know its hard to see the stripes in the jacket) and leopard in the boots? Although I think leopard is a neutral!!

Tuesday morning....this was my "walking" apparel.....I have gained 15 pounds (YIKES) since the summer and my clothes remind me everyday! I have all this fab stuff that I can't even SQUEEZE into so I am slowly starting to so something about it....I walk 2 miles....I just started last week and only did it 4 times....I need to also control my diet because no matter how many miles I walk it won't keep that entire bag of kettle cooked chips off my hips!!

Tuesday's outfit wasn't that impressive....I was so busy all day I never made it into the shower after my walk BUT I did at least change my t-shirt so I looked a lil more presentable for school pick-up....My photog extraordinaire asked why even bother taking a pic....I replied "Just keeping it real" So that's my reasoning for today peeps.....just keeping it real!

Thrifty Tuesday

Welcome to THRIFTY TUESDAY!! Here you will see my thrifty finds of the week and I'd LOVE to see what you found too!!

While thrifting in DeKalb I found this FAB purse! Jenny grabbed it before I could...luckily she also couldn't see herself using it on a daily basis...Not that I could....Ok, who am I kidding, I could totally use gold, leopard and tortoise chain everyday - RIGHT?!?!?!

Yes friends, that is a BETSY JOHNSON purse....from the Pussycat Doll collection....can we say LOVE!?!!? And now that I heard the sad news that Betsy has filed bankruptcy, I feel like her pieces are even more rare now...she will still be producing a line for Macy's (which is a yay! Because it will be more affordable BUT boo because her stores were so CUTIE!!).

And while on the topic of handbags....I have been on the hunt for a fabby new purse (there was a Betsy Johnson at Tj Maxx last week BUT as you know, you snooze you loose....we went back to get it and it was LONG gone  - insert sad face here). While at Goodwill yesterday (one of the expensive ones...that has a set price for shirts, dresses, etc) I found this awesome tangerine colored handbag...see the cute slower detail? The beads - almost pearl like in the center of each flower....BRAND NEW and only $3.49

I also have been DYING for some fun and funky wedges BUT just don't want to spend $30.00 at Target ...see, I told you, I am "thrifty"!! At the same GW, I found these BRAND NEW FUN colored wedges....

I LOVE accessories! They ALWAYS fit and can totally transform that ho-hum outfit into WOW! Or by changing accessories makes the same outfit look new! Here are a few things I found last week:

Crystal and gold chain, big bold gold ball necklace from Talbots...

The necklace on the left is for a project รก la Tamera Beardsley (when I make it I will feature my take and HER original link) and do you see that FABBY McFab white necklace on the right?!?! The ball is huge and reminds me of a brain BUT I LOVE it! It'll look so sharp paired with a collared shirt.

Tell me about YOUR favorite find!

A day in the life.....

Spent Saturday at the Kane County Flea Market....was going to vend BUT the weather was supposed to be bad....while Saturday was overcast, COULD'VE been a great day to sell....lots of people (however most were empty handed) BUT Sunday was OMINOUS....with torrential downpours....SO, it was a good that I was just an observer this go 'round! Were you there? What did you BUY or Sell?

I found these F A B ankle cowboy boots...they were wide so I thought they might be mens....SO I had to try them on....

Can we say L O V E?!?! at first sight?!?! If they had been a thumbs length smaller, they would've been mine (and the asking price was only $40.00). I just adored the green color!!

I picked up some of these for future products to be featured at "The Pec Thing" May 18-20th

Fun to see all the different kinds of beads.....for some strange reason I was DRAWN to the rock-like beads....

When I saw these I had NO idea what they were....any guesses?

Milk glass taper candle stick holders....Pretty neat huh?

In honor of the Kentucky Derby I tried this hat on.....I want to go to The Derby JUST to wear a hat and sip a mint julep (HOWEVER I think I need a much grander hat)

I'm not mad, I swear!! THis was supposed to be my "I'm too sexxy for these fab vintage glasses pose" and there was no mirror to see how they looked.....despite the silly face I LOVED them....the asking prices - $10.00....momma walked away without the glasses (IF you know me in real life you know I LOVE to be frugal - it's a challenge and a thrill....there are a few things I won't bat an eyelash at price wise {Coach, bare minerals make-up and SOME shoes} but most everything else I am Frugal Frieda).
Thankfully as I walked away the sweet lady vendor said "I'll take $5.00" and momma said "SOLD"....see that folks, in a matter of seconds she realized she was going to lose a sale and came down half....I would've paid $8.00!!

Speaking of the flea, IF you live in Illinois, Wisconsin or Iowa, come check me out at THE PEC THING at the Winnebago County Fairgrounds Friday May 18 (actually set up day but early tix are available) SATURDAY MAY 19 and SUNDAY MAY 20th

I'll have it on the side...

In my WIWW post this week you may have noticed my side pony....I have been dying to try this and my hair is JUST barely long enough SO the  night before I decided I was going to do my hair this way, I tried it....

And FIRST it looked like this....

Yes my friends, I looked like an 80's throwback!!!
BUT I was un-daunted....and tried again....
YES!!! This is more like what I pictured in my head!! And so that is how I wore it the next day....

IF at first you don't succeed TRY TRY AGAIN!!

Try IT Thursday....Lace Cap Sleeves

I think I might try doing something new....every Thursday posting a "Try IT" and myabe do a linky party.....would y'all play along?!?! Maybe a project, recipe, nail polish idea, etc....

Lemme preface this post by saying I H A T E White shirts (Of ANY kind) . I know they are a classic wardrobe staple and some of y'all swear by them...I just feel like they don't look good on me. I bought a pack of men's white v-necks with the idea of trying to be "simple" BUT anyone who knows me KNOWS simple and Janae don't go together!! I have a few ideas and this was one of them....although I can't take complete credit...I was inspired by Giuliana Rancic's lavendar sweater she wore on her show Giuliana and Bill....it had lace cap sleeve accents....I remembered I had lace I cut off a skirt I have (I did take pics but this was last May and since I hadn't worn the skirt until recently I never thought I would and that the project was a fail.....So i deleted the pics - I know, GASP!! It was this skirt that I cut....

See, I have a LONG strip of lace....(and the white T)

So last night at 9:30pm I started a project (isn't that what any reasonable person does?!?!) and ta-da!! Here are the results (since it was after 10pm I had no photographers and had to de a self portrait)
I just tacked and gathered the lace with a plain 'ol needle and thread! ps, I DON'T sew, SO (ha ha ha) IF I can do this, anyone can....

I wore it today (sorry NO outfit spoiler post - just the shirt) and got several compliments....one from a very cute trendy chic at Twice is Nice consignment shop!
Lemme know if YOU try this!!

Sometimes you have to call it what it is....

...which is a DISASTER!! I knew I wanted a grey putty base and my daughter has those As seen on TV "Salon Express" disks which always work well for her! Polka dots is one of the patterns, so I said lemme try pink polka dots - i picked my brightest pink and she did my big toe.....

\While it looks like you can see it in the photo, in person it was MUCH paler, like barley noticeable.....

So I took my polish brush and polka dotted over it.....
Which made my toes look like they had the measles I think.... (Although in the pics they look relatively cute)....SO I figured if I added some gold glitter that would class them up....

But after doing it to my big toe I decided to just do dots on my ring fingers and golden mist on the others....

BUT it was bugging me, bad....SO I took off all the polish that had polka dots (and now typing this post I wish I would have lived with them for at least a day)

I started over with this....Kardashian Kolor "My Empire....My Rules" which is a putty grey and Art Deco Gold glitter

And THIS is my current mani.....

I LOVE this look BUT it's clearly NOT as FUN as the polka dots!! I'll have to try them again sometime!
