Try It Thursday Book Page Angel Wings

I originally saw these wings on Pinterest from here I KNEW I could re-create them SO I set to work.....

I cut my template out of snakeskin poster board like material that was left over from work...rolled several hundred book pages and hot glued them into cone shapes, enlisted some child labor to help glitter the edges (I did NOT glitter all the edges, I sprinkled the glittered pages throughout)

Then I started at the bottom and hot glued them on one by one....I added some vintage teal tinsel to the top (the vote from my daughter and I - the choices were silver, gold or teal)

AS you can see, the teal ties in with my pillows....
Find a blank wall, hang and ENJOY!!

Thrifty Tuesday Coffee Mug Bar

I can't take credit for this FAB idea!! I saw it first here on Raising Up Rubies Blog and thought it was GENIUS!!

IMAGE from

It got me to thinking....I could use something like this....and oddly enough within a short time of seeing this idea I found this at a local Shop & Swap and it was free...

**See that nickel satin finish curtain rod? I got that for FREE...I just had to but the hardware to hang it..
Little did I know that it's near IMPOSSIBLE to buy just the brackets for the rod without investing in what a new rod set would cost....I was un deterred though - I KNEW there was a cost effective alternative!

How about a pair of robe hooks? YEAH! Those should work!!

SO I decided this area right above my coffee maker would be the PERFECT spot...

And so I hung the hooks....and then I hung the bar and the mugs....
(** I have to add by saying I want more eclectic mugs and the kids will each choose one when we find the exact ones they love)

To hang the mugs I used these shower curtain hooks I found at K-Mart...

After living with the bar of mugs for a week I decided I should've put it on the other wall and moved the coffee maker over there....but I couldn't really drill 4 more holes in the opposing wall could I????

She believed she could SO she did!!
Much better, no?
And where the coffee bar originally was, IS now the snack all worked out swimmingly don't you think?!?! The hooks were $8.00 - more than I wanted to pay (I'm sure If I held out I could've found some at the thrift) BUT I was anxious to get the project started!

What has inspired you lately?!?!? I am perusing the following blogs that I have linked this idea too (LOTS of GREAT ideas on these blogs-  check them out!!)

Mani Monday Pearls and Turkey's

I am linking up with Heather at Glitter and Gloss for Mani Monday. My daughter is always doing her nails and LOVES to link up! She would just die if she was ever featured!! Do ya think I have a lil diva on my hands?!?! She did turkey's last week for Thanksgiving....I LOVE that she went the non-traditional route with colors and did her faves instead of orange, yellow and brown...

She used the nail art think line polishes for the "feathers" and the Sally Hansen pen for the faces!

Last week I did a french tip and decided to add pearls to the middle finger - I LOVED the classy FUN look!

I got the pearls at Family Dollar - they came in this lil wheel o'fun!

I seriously find the MOST incredible stuff at Family Dollar - if there's one in your town - check it out!! And go with an open mind - remembering you will put YOUR twist on it (whether it be a scarf - I have scored several there or a home accent!). What have you gotten at the Family Dollar that you just LOVE?!?!

A day in the life...

PHEW what a BUSY week it's been! Between work and getting ready for the holidays there was no time for blogging - BOOOO!! BUT I was able to complete a few projects that I will be posting soon!! Here are some pics from the last 2 weeks...

We bought a goose - ok not really, just a pic! And not even the pic - I bought it for the frame for a project I am working on...

Maya's turkey nails...she started out with the traditional yellow and orange BUT decided to switch it up and make it fun - I LOVE the way they came out!!

I moved a few things around in the kitchen

Since we didn't get to carve Halloween pumpkins, we carved Thanksgiving pumpkins...a feather, pilgrim hat and Turkey...

Took down the Thanksgiving decor and have started putting up touches of Christmas (always hard in a new house - trying to figure out where everything goes).  Vintage Alvin and The Chipmunks album - I used to listen to these as a kid....

Helping my lil guy reach the tippy top!!

A lil sneak peak of a project I will be blogging about
What have you been up to?

Thrifty Tuesday....Dollar Store Bins with Gold Polka Dots

As I have been getting settled in my new place I am discovering I want my things to be beautifully organized...baskets are ALWAYS a win (except for tights...they will snag on the basket) so I knew exactly what I was looking for...Those collapsible boxes that everyone and their momma sells. So I started at Target - and had sticker shock - $6.99 for one box...I needed 2. I wasn't about to pay $13.98 for 2 bins - that's downright crazy!! Especially since they were going to be in the armoire ....So I headed over to the Dollar Tree....

Where I DID find bins!! Woot woot! However they only came with blue polka dots...

SO I decided to paint over them with gold craft paint (that was free to me - it was in a box of curb side finds)....Silly that I should worry about colors since I just said it was going to be in an armoire...

BUT they should still be pretty right?!?!

SO I painted and painted....and then I decided to outline the circles with a black sharpie....Oddly enough as I was painting them I decided I kinda liked the blue circles - they became less blue and more teal as I painted them....

Here they are all set up in the armoire....and the one to the left holds tights and leg warmers and the one to the right holds fun and funky socks!!

Being better organized will help me be better with time management (because I won't spend forever looking for things!). What Dollar Tree product has inspired YOU?!?!?!
