MANIC MONDAY.....HANG YOUR HAT

The way you hang your hat.....No they can't take that away from me....a la Frank Sinatra....
SOME days are just a hat kinda day...

In the summer I LOVE to pop on a straw hat before I head out the door....I have several...SO I came up with a way to keep them handy...right by the front door....I hung one of my daughters belts from YEARS ago (like 7) a simple white braided belt....

And hung my hats on with glitter clips.....

SO they're ready for me to pop on and head out the door (and BONUS they are summery beachy utilitarian decor)

FOODIE FRIDAY....BACON WRAPPED PORK TENDERLOIN

Sunday I decided to make a nice family lunch - since we were all home together (and that IS what they did in the olden days....big lunch, small dinner). I had a pork tenderloin that I wrapped in bacon (AFTER putting slits throughout the pork to pop some cloves of garlic in...no other seasoning was required because the bacon is salty and DEELISH and the garlic would give some flavor). I also knew I wanted oven fried potatoes with it....

SO I sliced my potatoes into wedges, covered them in herbed butter and added a teaspoon of bacon grease and put them in a pie plate. I then took a round cooling rack and placed that OVER the potatoes and popped the tenderloin on the top...
Baked it at 320 for about an hour and then broiled for a few minutes to brown the bacon, took the tenderloins out and let them cool before cutting and continued to broil the potatoes flipping every few minutes....

THIS WAS DEELISH!!! How do you prepare your pork?!?!?!

TRY IT THURSDAY....VISION BOARDS

I'm pretty sure I have blogged about vision boards in the past...and each year I make a new one....as my goals change OR I have accomplished something on my previous board it's time to freshen up the board. The definition is: vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. You can find more information on this website here http://makeavisionboard.com/what-is-a-vision-board/ You can find images of vision boards all over the internet....I found this one on instagram

THIS vision board is from when I was 35....My goals were getting back to church, eating healthy, getting a job, vacation to Florida.....the things that came to fruition were getting back to church, I got a job and I made healthier food choices

The next year my goals were STILL Florida / Disney, an engagement ring, a new house, getting fit and being a FAB mom and being independent ....the things that came to fruition were moving, independence, got an engagement ring (that fell thru- all 3 times!!), and being a fab mom!!

This was my vision board that I made last August....It was a lot of inspirational quotes and reminders....some things were HUGE (like the cadillac that I still DON'T have) and other things DID come to fruition...Making it another year, VACATION (this was a HUGE one for me on so many levels..our first family vacation in 6 years, I was the only adult on the trip and I did it ALL BY MYSELF - I know this may sound silly to some BUT it was a big deal for me), I made time for friendship, for being present in my family time, I didn't settle....

THIS is the latest vision board I created....here are real life goals....investing in my 401K, cleaning up my credit, growing an edible (patio) garden, farm life, investing in my business, travel, falling in love, getting engaged, getting a passport....REAL BASIC things!!
I know some people think vision boards are hokey, BUT I believe it does keep the things you want front and center in your life in your mind and you are subconsciously working toward those goals....

1) PUT IT WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT
Put your board in a place you will see it EVERYDAY (for example mine's in my bathroom closet and I pop the door open so I can see it while getting ready every morning).

2) SHARE YOUR GOALS
Don't be afraid to share your goals....if you're afraid to share for fear of failure that's silly....EVERYONE fails sometimes AND a "failure" may not be a failure.....you may decide that as you attempted to accomplish one of your "visions" you didn't want or desire it as much as you thought you may...or it wasn't what you thought it would be at all BUT you don't know until you try....

3) UPDATE YOUR BOARD
As you complete goals or get things accomplished, re-do your board....we are everchanging and our goals should reflect that! I LOVE to keep my old boards so I can see what I have actually accomplished, what I still need to work on AND what I can add or subtract going forward.

Do YOU make vision boards?!?! If so leave your link and tips so I can check it out!!

THRIFTY TUESDAY....BURLAP HANGING BASKETS

I believe EVERYWHERE you go has inspiration....One day my friend and I were going to the wine store and this GORG planter was outside on of the shops....the BURLAP is what caught my eye (see I have these cone shaped metal planters that the dirt always sinks down TOO far into, the plants sink too far down into, etc SO I haven't used them in the last few years BUT this year I brought them out because I wanted to try them again!!) and when I saw this planter lined with burlap I KNEW it was the SOLUTION!!!

I am no stranger to trial and error...for example a few years ago at another house I had to get creative....It was fall, I got the hanging baskets and plants for UBER cheap the ONLY problem was I couldn't find the coco liners ANYWHERE at that time in the season....

SO I tried a vintage (plastic lined) valance I had gotten at the thrift store....

DEF better than just bare pots....

And LUCKILY I had enough to do BOTH!!!

ok, ok, back to the planters I mentioned above....I know it's kinda hard to see the conical shape....

So I took a close up....

Bought my burlap on sale with my coupon (so it was only 2.38 for a yard)
Cut the burlap in half and shoved it down into the cone....leaving me with some overflow on the top (that I cut into points)

And VIOLA!!!! I now have designer- like hanging baskets  for $2.38 - you couldn't even buy a SINGLE coco liner for that price (unless you found some at the dollar store - which is GREAT but I know for a fact too short for these particular baskets)

BEFORE and AFTER
Do YOU use burlap in your outdoor decor?!?!?

MANIC MONDAY.....GETTIN NEW INK

Do you ever have those spontaneous moments?!?! OR wish you did?!?!? A few weeks ago when my gurl and I were having a garage sale we were fooling around with washable markers....

And then we decided it would be really cool to get matching "Ohana" tattoos...Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind. Not only is she my sista from a different mista, we are there for each other thru thick and thin AND we are neighbors (how lucky?!?!). While sitting out the other day she says "Let's go get tattoos for our birthday!!!" I was like "alright" (all the while thinking omg, are we really gonna do this?!?! Altho I don't know why I have 4 OTHER tattoo's). SO an hour later we were at the tattoo parlour....

TOTALLY lovin it! What's the CRAZIEST thing you've done?!?!?

ARM SAWG SUNDAY.....BASIC LAYERING PIECES

As a kid we always went to garage sales and antique stores with my parents....I LOATHED it.....then I decided I needed something to "Collect" something special to look for at each sale....Jewelry and Blue Willow dishes were my go to (I am sad to say I simply threw away the blue willow dishes when they didn't fit my "style" anymore.....to this day I KICK myself....I was 18 and DUMB). I also never saved any of the jewelry I bought either (another FAIL....I can distinctly remember a few pieces). Anyway the moral behind that story IS to this day I STILL am drawn to jewelry like a moth to a flame.....any sale, thrift shop or store I go to I am checking out the jewelry.....

In this thrift store haul I got the bracelets pictured on the purse below....

BEAUTIFUL smal tortoise bangles....they look very ralph lauren to me (no name or identifying marks)

This piece looks vintage....cream and navy twisted plastic....PERFECT for layering with my cream vintage bangles....
This piece is a niece quality stainless steel....again....perfect for layering....

I will show you how I style them in future posts!!!
